people who think i’m being trigger happy when I say there is racism in academia

newwavefeminism:

reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally need to think about their experience with academia again.

don’t get me wrong, I’m about to graduate. I wouldn’t trade these last four years for anything. but that doesn’t stop me from being critical so that we make sure to not continue the name nuances of racism into our future progression of thought. The people who wrote racist literature of the past are the people who decide what literature is worthwile, are the people who established institutions, are the people who taught our professors, who are the people who are the gate keepers for literature now.

i’m not about to just sit down and think we’re just going to make steps to progress without actually saying anything about the system.

How could someone possibly suggest that there isn’t racism in academia?

Look what I ripped off a stop sign in Alameda. Gross.

I remember after seeing Avatar in 2009, I was like I want to go to an archery range and shoot. Using a bow and arrow is deadly but yet the structure of it is beautiful… they’re natural and can be made out of anything unlike guns. They go years back into the time Native Americans lived, The most natural weapon. Now, after reading & seeing The Hunger Games I seriously need to go to a archery range! LOVE both movies.

I think guns are so ugly.  These weapons are used to kill people and things.  There is something very different about a bow and arrow or a sword as opposed to a gun.  You connect with what you are injuring/killing, in a way a gun does not allow.  Guns are almost inhuman.  They allow a distance and an apathy in murder and death that no weapon made before has allowed.  It takes a man to kill something and FEEL the life wash out of them, become one with the action they are doing.  Anyone can hold a gun and shoot, and some can even walk away and act like it was nothing.

First of all, good job fetishizing Native American culture.

Second, they said the EXACT SAME FUCKING THINGS ABOUT THE LONGBOW WHEN IT WAS INVENTED! After that, when the crossbow came around everyone practically shat themselves with rage and indignation.

Also! Fuck your “it takes a man,” bullshit. Misogyny much?

Douche…

I just need to reblog this.  Archery was not singular to Native American culture.  Archery has been around for thousands upon thousands of years. “The earliest potential arrow heads date from about 64,000 years ago in the South African Sibudu Cave.” … that’s a long time, so I doubt anyone knows what they had to say about the long bow.  Misogynist?  I’m sorry I said takes a man and not takes a man or a woman.  I was saying it shows someone who has strength.  I’m a woman?  I’m honestly thinking this was some kind of joke, because… I can’t imagine someone would call me names with wrong information.  Could be wrong though.  Either way, sorry you don’t agree with my opinion. Don’t like it, go read another blog.

I wasn’t saying Native Americans invented archery, I was pointing out the oh so typical “native people live in the most natural ways! They’re so in tune with the Earth!” bullshit.

Beyond that, did you seriously just deny your misogyny by saying you’re a woman? Have you really never heard of internalized oppression? Good job coming back with a binarist solution and NO, you don’t get to just say “read another blog,” because you’re being an ignorant shit on the internet and you’re gonna fucking get called out… Seems your entire blogging existence is people calling you out.

Don’t like it? STOP BLOGGING!

Also, longbows are not the same as the first bow and arrow: longbows were invented in the 12th century CE and implemented by the English army in the 14th century, making English archers the most feared in Europe… that’s like comparing a .50 cal sniper rifle with a blunderbuss… I was too busy calling you out for being a racist, misogynist, douche to notice you failing in historical accuracy.

Displacement of natives in the Amazon.

i-hear-other-words-behind:

How dare black people live in your dorm building and make such a ruckus when you paid room and board (even though they paid it just like you did).

How dare they call you a white girl (when you benefit from being a white individual in this society so a simple ‘white girl’ is not even an insult, much less a reason to cry).

And how dare you claim to not be racist when you clearly are.

How dare you say that blacks create racism when blacks are STILL targeted, assaulted and killed because of their skin color.

How dare you be ignorant of the marginalization of People of Color and the institutionalization YOU BENEFIT FROM that keeps POC at a disadvantage at every level compared to white folks.

Pathetic. And then to imply you deserve SO MUCH respect for dealing with black people in your building, and for not hating black people because of the very minor situations shows how privileged and sheltered you are.

BUT YOU DO HATE BLACK PEOPLE. You wouldn’t have made such a moronic and nonsensical post if you DIDN’T. Pathetic. Truly pathetic.

Next time you may want to keep your bullshit untagged.
